The California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CASFAA) supports Proposition 16 on the November 2020 ballot. Proposition 16 would repeal proposition 209, which banned the use of affirmative action within state and public agencies in California and in terms of higher education prohibits the state from granting favorable treatment to anyone based on race, sex, color, ethnicity or nationality. CASFAA's mission includes being proactive regarding positions on State and national financial aid policy issues, as well as protecting the interests and rights of California students for educational access and choice. Therefore, while this proposition primarily affects the public segment, by supporting Proposition 16 CASFAA supports providing all of California’s students financial opportunities, regardless of their economic status and background, to pursue their educational goals.
